Shri Sanjay Upadhyay is currently the MLA from Borivali, Maharashtra Vidhan Sabha. He has also been serving as the Secretary of BJP Maharashtra since 2015. His dedication and commitment to the ideology of the BJP began in his early childhood.
His father, Shri Rambhakt Bhagawati Prasad Upadhyay, has been an RSS Swayamsevak for many years and introduced his son, Shri Sanjay Upadhyay, to RSS shakhas at the young age of six. Shri Sanjay Upadhyay was raised in Mumbai. He completed his schooling in the vernacular medium at B.L. Ruia High School, his graduation from Mithibai College, and his post-graduation (M.Sc. in Physics) from Wilson College.
His career in Politics began during the Lok Sabha Elections in the year 1984 at the age of 11 years. Being a new entrant, he was given the responsibility of filling the voter slips for the then candidate for Member of Parliament, Sh. Ram Jethmalani, besides rendering various services at booth level for BJP.
From college onwards, his vision for dedicating his life to the service of Nation became clear. He was highly inspired by Shri. Atal Bihari Vjapayee, and would attend all his political rallies. His active involvement in attending Political Sabhas and Rallies, made him more aware of the situations faced by the common man.
He stood for the University elections and was elected as the University Representative in the year 1993 and again in 1994. During this time he was officially made part of the BJP for the first time and inducted in BJP Youth Wing as the ward President.
His dedication and hard work towards the party was well recognised, and in the year 2003 he was appointed as the President of the Bhartiya Janta Yuva Morcha, Mumbai. During this tenure, Sh. Shanjay Upadhyay was given the responsibility to organise the Kargil Vijay Diwas as part of the 25 selected programs organised across the Country for commemorating the 25th Anniversary of BJP. This programme was organised at the Shanmukhanand Hall, Mumbai where Sh. Pramod Mahajan, the then General Secretary of National BJP honoured the families of Martyrs in presence of an audience of more than 7500 people.
His patriotism is deeply rooted in his life and is visible in the way he dedicates his life for the betterment of the nation and its people. He was deeply hurt and was shaken from within when he witnessed the bomb blast in Mumbai on 7/11. He could not hold himself and in order to express the anger of the youth of Mumbai, he organised a Vande Mataram Padh Yatra with the slogan “Youth against Terrorism”, covering a distance of 125 kms starting from Borivali to Mulund via Gateway of India. This protest yatra was attended by more than 20,000 people expressing the feelings of youth against the then Congress Government.
His contributions and dedication to the party and to the nation did not go unnoticed. He was promoted to the post of General Secretary, BJP Mumbai in the year 2011 making him the youngest person ever to hold this post.
He has climbed the ladder in the party one step at a time thereby making him aware of the needs of the party and of the nation at each level starting from the roots.
